The Kansas City Lindy Hop Society

Our Commitment to Education . . .

The Kansas City Lindy Hop Society (KCLHS) serves to educate the greater Kansas City community about Lindy Hop and other vintage swing dances. KCLHS conducts lessons, workshops, special events, demonstrations, and lectures to fulfill this mission.

Lessons:

KCLHS provides instruction by arrangement for schools, home schoolers, youth groups, church groups, sororities, fraternities, bridal parties, professional and service organizations, employee team building, and others. Lessons are tailored to meet your group’s needs. Whether you are looking for a one time lesson or a multi-class session, KCLHS will design the program you desire. To inquire about or schedule lessons for your group, go to our Special Request page.

Lessons provided by other local non-profit resources, can be found on the Lessons page.

Workshops:

Workshops are one time events that focus on a particular dance style, technique, or skill level. KCLHS plans to hold a variety of workshops throughout the year, featuring both local and regional instructors.

Workshops provided by KCLHS, and other local resources, can be found on the Workshops page.

Special Events:

Special events are of a larger scale and bring participants from outside the region. The focus of these events may be on instruction, dancing, or both.

KCLHS’s most recent special event was the 2007 Kansas City Lindy Exchange. As the organization grows, more special events will be organized.

Demonstrations:

From dancing at community fairs and blues clubs to providing entertainment for holiday parties and school events, KCLHS provides public and private demonstrations to entertain and educate the general public about Lindy Hop. Our demonstrations can also be combined with a lesson or lecture to bring the spirit of Lindy Hop Swing to your event.

Lectures:

Lindy Hop Swing has a considerable history that is intertwined with the history of the Harlem Renaissance and the World War II era. KCLHS can customize and deliver a presentation for your group or class. Teachers can integrate our program into a single lesson plan, a complete unit for a single discipline, or a cross-curricular endeavor. Our education team can assist you in addressing state curriculum benchmarks and objectives for social studies and communication arts.
